James V. Duke President/CEO

James is a licensed general and underground utility contractor with 25 years of construction industry experience, building both public and private construction projects. James received an Associates Degree in Architectural Technology and an Architectural/Civil Drafting Certificate from Jefferson State Junior College in Birmingham, Alabama. James is also a graduate of the Turner School of Construction Management Miami, Florida, Class of 2010; and completed the Construction Management Certificate program from Florida Atlantic University in August 2012. James got his start in the construction industry in 1987 working as a draftsman for a local HVAC contractor in Birmingham, Alabama. From May 1991 to April 2001, James went to work for one of the largest ductile iron pipe manufacturers in the United States as a detailer and lead draftsman, detailing ductile iron piping systems, preparing estimates, and providing technical assistance to general contractors all across the United States on some of the most complex water and sewer projects in the country. In addition to these attributes, James received cross training on competing piping materials such as PVC, RCP, HDPE, RCCP, and EWSP. In April 2001, James was recruited and hired as a Project Manager by one of South Florida's largest mechanical contractors. While here, James managed several high profile projects such as: The Hollywood Wastewater Treatment Plant, Hialeah and Preston Water Treatment Plant, Northside Concourse "A" Utility Corridor Link MIA, and the 24" sanitary by-pass project MIA.

Seeking a change of pace, James moved to Los Angeles, California in October 2003; where he served as Senior Project Engineer for one of the largest healthcare builders in the nation. It is here that James learned how to build hospitals to some of the most stringent seismic standards in the world.  While in California James  began the ground work for what is now known as J. Duke Construction. However, in July 2006 James decided to move back to South Florida to pursue construction opportunities in a climate not susceptible to long periods of cold weather. Since then, James has been working his way up the corporate ladder by managing on two of Miami's most notable projects; The 24 Story Latitude One Office Tower; and The 55 Story Mint at Riverfront Condominium project. James is a resident of Miami Dade County and is the proud father of a son who attends Alabama A & M University in Hunstville, Alabama. James is also a member of the New Mount Olive Baptist Church in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
